Pros and Cons of Dragon*Con

There’s no doubt that Dragon*Con is indeed our favorite fan convention here at ConSluts.com. If anything, we consider Dragon*Con to be our home base. This is why we’ve thrown the parties we have to date at this convention.

However, just like anything else in the world, D*C has its ups and downs. With that being the case, we decided to put together a list of Dragon*Con pros and cons. Though this is intended more for folks who have never attended the convention, it might be worth reading for experienced Dragon*Con attendees.

Have anything to add to this list? Head on over to the forums and let us know.

Pro: It’s Dragon*Con, right? It’s the largest convention of its type (concentrating on sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, and comics) in the world!

Con: It’s Dragon*Con, right? It’s also the most bloated convention of its type (concentrating on sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, and comics) in the world!

Pro: Probably the best group of guests (and most diverse) you’ll see at any convention. As far as the geek scene goes, you’re talking about some real star power. (Article continies after cut…)

Con: With such great guests and with so many fans in attendance, it’s sometimes difficult to be able to get more than a quick handshake and an autograph from your favorite stars, authors, and artists.

Pro: Dragon*Con draws people together from all over the world.

Con: Dragon*Con is full of lines where you will stand with people from all over the world. Registration is a nightmare and it can literally take hours to get through the line.

Pro: There are tons of affordable eats around, especially in the Overstreet Mall between the Marriot Marquis and the Hyatt Regency.

Con: Everything inside the hotels including food, alcohol, and even sundries are insanely expensive. Make sure you have everything you need. These aren’t just hotel prices, these are downtown hotel prices.

Pro: The convention keeps adding nearby hotels as official venues which provide more and more room for more and more events.

Con: The convention is spreading out. You can literally find yourself walking a few miles in one day just to hit all of the different panels and events that you want to be a part of. Good luck to ya if you have some sort of physical handicap that hinders your locomotion.

Pro: A couple of the hotels have beautiful humongous, lobbies that serve well for taking photos and socializing.

Con: The convention is so well attended that even these large spaces eventually become so jammed with people that moving from one place to another is a daunting task.

Pro: The dealer’s room is easily one of the largest you’ll ever see. It’s like a giant flea market for geeks!

Con: There are lots of rip-off artists. In other words, buyer beware truly applies here. You’ll find lots of pirated videos and such of very poor quality passed off as the real thing.

Pro: It’s an opportunity to stay in a rather nice hotel with lots of amenities and great architecture.

Con: Whoever designed the Hyatt Regency’s elevator system should be shot. Take the stairs. It’ll take less time than the elevator.

Well, that’s about all I have right now. Again, be sure head on over to our forums and let us know some of the pros and cons you think we may have missed!
